New Delhi WC: 2 medals (and Olympic quotas) in the 3×40 Men event!
2019 ISSF World Cup • New Delhi, IND
In the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Men event the 22-year old Istvan Peni (HUN) won Gold at the last shot, finishing atop of the podium with 459.1 points and a thin margin of 0.1 points on the Silver medallist Sergey Kamenskiy (RUS).
“Today’s victory feels amazing!” Peni said, right after the final. “This was my second chance to win an Olympic quota place. And I made it.” (…) “I am extremely satisfied and happy of my results. In 2017 I won the world cup final, in 2018 I won medals at every world cup stage, and today I won the first gold medal of the season. I can’t believe what’s happening to me, it’s just great!”
Marco De Nicolo (ITA) reached the third step of the podium, ending the final with 444.5 points. Through those medals —achieved with Starik Carbon Tubes, 5 out of 8 shooters used it in the final—, both Peni and De Niccolo also secured two Olympic quota places to Tokyo 2020.
